Helping Canada build a sauna culture of its own

Sauna Culture Canada was founded by Alan and Jennifer Grandy — two Canadians who fell for the heat and think the rest of the country should as well.

Finland has a sauna for nearly every household. Canada has the winters for it, the lakes for it and the trees for it — and almost none of the culture. We’d like to change that.

Sauna Culture Canada was founded by Alan and Jennifer Grandy. They came to sauna the way most people do — for how it makes you feel afterwards — and stayed for what it has done for their lives: sauna and pool parties with the family, and the conversations you only seem to have in a hot room, where nobody has a phone and nobody is in a hurry. They discovered the power sauna has not only to improve wellbeing but also to bring a community together.

That’s the part worth spreading. Not a wellness trend and not a piece of fitness equipment — a practice that’s good for your health and even better for the people you do it with. Canada is more than capable of building a sauna culture of its own. It mostly needs people willing to go first, write it down and invite everyone else in.

Alan & Jennifer Grandy

Co-founders

Alan and Jennifer started Sauna Culture Canada out of their own garage sauna. Most of what ends up here — the builds, the trips, the writing — is the two of them and whoever they can talk into helping.
